In Roake v. Brumley, we supported the appellants in defending Louisiana’s HB 71, which mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. The Foundation argues that the Ten Commandments are not merely religious symbols but are also foundational to Western legal and republican government traditions. The brief emphasizes that these commandments convey essential principles such as respect for life, property, truth, and family, all of which are cornerstones of American legal and cultural heritage. By showcasing the historical influence of Hebrew law on the Founders and early American jurisprudence, the Foundation asserts that the display is consistent with constitutional principles and does not constitute the establishment of religion. The Foundation urged the Court to reverse the district court’s decision and uphold Louisiana’s right to recognize the secular significance of the Ten Commandments.
